The<br \/>\nwork utilises the CAVE technology stereographic virtual reality<br \/>\nenvironment with contiguous projections on three walls and the floor.<br \/>\nThe user interface is a near life-size wooden puppet that is formed<br \/>\nlike the prosaic artists&#8217; mannequin; this figure can be handled by the<br \/>\nviewers to control real time transformations of the computer generated<br \/>\nimagery and the sound composition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;ConFIGURING the CAVE\u00bb is constituted by seven differentiated pictorial<br \/>\ndomains. Movement of the puppets body and limbs dynamically modulate<br \/>\nvarious parameters in the image and sound generating software, while<br \/>\nparticular postures of the puppet cause specific visual events to<br \/>\noccur. Most significantly it is the action of moving the puppet&#8217;s hands<br \/>\nto cover and then uncover its eyes, which causes the transitions from<br \/>\none pictorial domain to the next.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abConFIGURING the CAVE\u00bb embodies a meta-language of functional<br \/>\nrelationships between corporeal and spatial co-ordinates. These<br \/>\nrelationships are both physical and conceptual, reflecting the<br \/>\ntraditional attitude in many cultures of conjecturing the body as the<br \/>\nlocus and measure of all things.
